Should I Repair or Replace My Desktop Computer

Our computer repair workshop in Perth sees all sorts of computers, from the very new to the very very old including those running Windows 98.

We always give objective advice on computer repairs. Sometimes a small and cost effective repair can give an old computer an extend life. On the other hand, laptops that are perhaps 3 or 4 years old that have suffered a liquid spill and just not worth repairing.

This machine came in this morning as a non-boot.

The power supply had popped and had taken the main processor with it so it's just not worth repairing when you can purchased a fully refurbished computer with a guarantee for only £99.99 inc VAT

So if the inners of your desktop looks like this, you might want to consider replacing it sooner rather than later.

Olympic Torch in Perth 2012

We gathered on the flat roof of PC Solutions to watch the Olympic Torch Relay past through Perth.

The traffic was chaos and a LOT of traffic offences were committed by cars, buses, bikes and pedestrians all trying to either get a better view or avoid the view.

Shot this video from our roof and if you look closely at the road junction you can just see the torch:

As we were waiting for so long, the camera went into power save mode. All of a sudden the Torch came into view and I hit the power button but forgot to zoom in :(

Trolling the Boss

Our computer engineers are competitive by nature and when you add two of the computer repair engineers are avid computer gamers, then you have a very very competitive environment.

We enjoy having a laugh and ragging each other but we are particularly proud of the new heights we recently reached trolling The Boss.

The Boss is a fairly laid back guy who gives as good as he gets, but he'll have to go some to beat these:

One afternoon while he was busy, we created this scarecrow out of his motor bike gear:

Our Boss always parks his bike within site of the shop so it is very difficult to 'do' anything to the bike.

However, one recent afternoon he was called away, leaving his bike parked on a very busy street and un-guarded

Remember that the bike is parked in a public space:

It must have sat like this for about 3 hours!

The Boss has not said much about these so we are watching our backs!

The Latest Creation to Emerge from the PC Solutions Gaming Lab

We have just finished off the physical build of a brand new gaming system for a customer of ours. Its a fantastic system with the new AMD FX-8120 which is a eight core processor.

This build is done in a slightly different case than what we would usually use, yet it is still a great case for gaming , it is called the Fractal Design Core 300. 


The next major component that is essential to a gaming computer is the graphics card. In this build we used a Nvidia GeForce GTX560Ti (MSI Twin Frozr II) which is a great card, not only is it powerful but the style of it is really cool. It has the dual fans on it also which help with the cooling of the card.

Successful Haggis Hunt In Perth

As it's Burns Night on the 25th of Jan, where we celebrate the life and works of Robbie Burns, Alex our Special Tech Engineer tried his hand at Haggis Hunting this morning.

Haggis are wily creatures and are very good at hiding in the heather and bracken. Being small and fleet of hoof, Haggis love to roam on the craggy hills of Scotland making them very difficult to see, never mind catch.

Alex has youth on his side and I'm pleased to report that he managed to catch a brace of Haggis in Glenfarg, a well know haggis haunt.
