How To Use Thermal Paste In Your Computer

Thermal Paste Horrors

Without getting too technical, thermal paste is a special compound that is used between the CPU or brain of the computer and the heat sink.

The thermal paste ensures a near perfect mating/join between the surface of the CPU and the surface of the heat sink to maximise the heat transfer away from the CPU. Computer CPU’s are very similar to the human brain inthat they are incredibly sensitive to heat. Any extra heat and they die!!

In this particular case, a gamer had been attempting to upgrade the cooling on his CPU but made the most unfortunate mistake of using too much thermal paste.

If too much thermal paste is used, then instead of being a boost to heat conductivity, the extra thermal paste acts as insulation thus causing the CPU to over heat and this in this case regretfully die.

Thermal paste should be used like Tippex and applied over the entire surface of the CPU in a very very thin layer.

We use thermal paste everyday in the course of building or repairing computer systems, Our preferred brand is Arctic .

Our on-line computer components shop has just about everything you might need to build a computer

If you have any questions about thermal paste or any other aspect of building get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

Working in Paradise

The Power of Technology is here to be harnessed.

I am able to work remotely and probably been even more productive thanks to modern technology.

The camp-site that I am currently working from is equipped with wireless connectivity that is powered by ADSL.

As most campers don't use the connection, I am actually getting better broadband speeds in the North West of Scotland than I do in Perth, central Scotland!!

My laptop is a core i5 with 8GB RAM and a 500 GB hard dive. The power and storage of this HP laptop allows me to do all the photo & video editing that I need for our web site and the various blogs that I write for.

So I while I am writing this blog post, I am sitting glorious Scottish sunshine connected at 8 Mbp/s!

A Most Embarrassing Computer Problem

A very distraught lady brought her laptop in with a problem.

Her son had thought it would be funny if he were to change the Windows Default Sound Scheme to something different.

The lady in question had connected her laptop to a projector and a large PA sound system to deliver a presentation when she discovered the fault:

Her son had changed the default to sound to a sound best described as a breaking wind sound.

To make matters worse, the fault was revealed in full stereo to a packed meeting room!!

Our computer repair engineers very quickly removed the offending sound clip and replaced it with the normal Windows Sound Scheme.

The last we heard, the Son was still paying the price!

How To Protect Your Home or Business With IP Cameras

How To Protect Your Home or Business With IP Cameras

When it comes to protecting your home or business, there are many things you can do. Deterring crime or any other kind of nuisance is a pretty tough challenge, but certain security measures have been proven to be quite effective. One of the most basic things a homeowner or business owner can do is to install motion sensor lights, which will turn on whenever something moves in certain spots around the home or business. But, if you are looking for something more advanced than that, or if they do not seem to be working, then you may want to consider installing IP (internet protocol) cameras.

What is an Internet Protocol (IP) camera?

An Internet Protocol camera is a type of surveillance camera, which operates on a closed circuit television system (CCTV.) The name derives from the fact that these cameras can send and receive information through an internet connection and network, and therefore it allows a person to get the live video feed from any location that has an internet connection.

In essence, an internet protocol camera operates in much the same way as a webcam, or similar type of arrangement. The only difference is that IP cameras are built specifically for surveillance needs, while the others are not necessarily built specifically for surveillance.

So, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the system, and to know exactly what you are looking for and why you want a surveillance system in the first place. All of these factors will determine whether or not the ip camera system is the right fit for you.

Pros of IP Cameras

Two-way audio capabilities
Higher image resolution
Flexibility and adaptability
Intelligence can be distributed and shared easily
Remote access to surveillance in real time

Cons of IP Cameras

More expensive than other video surveillance systems
High network bandwidth requirements
Usually need professional installation
Can be susceptible to hackers and outside interference

This is an example of the quality and resolution of the footage that is available via CCTV as used in our computer repairs workshop in Perth.

The actual equipment used was Swann, which can be purchased from our web site

As part of our service, we offer a CCTV system installation service within a 30 mile radius of Perth
