Proof That Computer Engineers Are Human

It takes a certain sort of person or personality to be a good computer engineer.

A lot of folks view computer engineers as geeks or nerds with no social skills but I can assure you that is not always the case.

Our computer engineers work as very tight knit team, often helping each other both professionally and personally. This means that we operate on the same wave length and 'get' the same jokes etc

However, sharing emotions is not one of our key strengths, and being male ...............

Anyhow this video proves beyond all reasonable doubt that the PC Solutions Computer Engineer Team do have emotions:

This machine came in this morning as a non-boot.

How To Use Your iTunes Library On Another Computer

How To Sign Into Your iTunes Account From A Different Computer

It is possible to configure up to 5 different computers to login into your iTunes account. This facility let you enjoy your music collection wherever you are.

I use this so I can use my iPod when I am out, my laptop when I am working in the office and my desktop when I am at home.

When you create an iTunes account login, you generally download and store the same information on one computer, which allows you to upload the songs, movies, applications and other content directly to your portable device.

However, there are times where you might want to access your information on a different computer, such as when at a friend’s house, or when you purchased a new computer and want to upload the information to your new computer.

This can be done with just a few steps on iTunes and it takes just a moment or two to perform.

Open iTunes and wait for the computer program to load. It does not matter if you are using the program on a Windows or Mac computer, even if the other computer is a different operating system.

On the right side of the program window, under the search feature is a small login pull-down menu. If someone else is currently logged into the iTunes software select "Log Out". If nobody is logged in (or after the username has been logged out), select "Log In", then type in your account information.

iTunes will ask if you want to log into the computer and make it one of your five selected. You are able to share information you purchase and download with up to five different computers. You need to agree to this in order to log into your account on this different computer.

Once you agree, you have the ability to view all your previously downloaded content and select to download it to the new computer.

Depending on how much material you have purchased and downloaded on your iTunes account, this process can take a rather long time (transferring thousands of songs to a different computer can take a while), so make sure you have some time to allow this to take place. Your internet connection will have a large impact on the speed of the download. Think twice about doing it over 3G!

If you are having any problems with iTunes, iPod, iPads, iPhones or your computer / laptop, our computer engineers will be able to assist you.

Remember we operate a No Fix No Fee computer repairs service, details on our website.

Many thanks to Daniel Hettler for this guest contribution. You can find lots more of Daniel's work and articles on his website

Microsoft Patch Tuesday June 2012

It's the day of patches from Microsoft and most systems will need updates from XP to Windows 7.

My Windows 7 laptop needed 54 MB of updates so if you are on a 3G dongle, you might want to choose your time to download the Microsoft updates.

Updates for the Windows operating system is a fact of life and mainly they are to improve the security and efficiency of your computer.

Some folks advocate the approach of 'it it ain't broke don't fix' but from our long experience they are a necessary evil.

We had had our first panic call from a user who's machine is now refusing to boot so if you are having troubles with your Windows Updates give us a call or bring your machine in

Olympic Torch in Perth 2012

We gathered on the flat roof of PC Solutions to watch the Olympic Torch Relay past through Perth.

The traffic was chaos and a LOT of traffic offences were committed by cars, buses, bikes and pedestrians all trying to either get a better view or avoid the view.

Shot this video from our roof and if you look closely at the road junction you can just see the torch:

As we were waiting for so long, the camera went into power save mode. All of a sudden the Torch came into view and I hit the power button but forgot to zoom in :(

Good Old Fashioned Computer Engineering

Our Perth based computer repair facility faces all sorts of problems on a daily basis.

A Real Beast of a Gaming PC

We have looked after this beast of a gaming rig for a couple of years now and every time it comes in I am  in awe of it.

Each time it comes in, we give it a full health check and make sure that all the cooling systems are clean and functioning to maximum efficiency.

It's got a 1200 watt power supply together with a special mains lead that is extra thick to cope with the juice.

A Core i7 processor with 12gigs of RAM

12 Gigs of RAM in this gaming rig

Graphics Power

Twin Radeon HD 4890s running in Crossfire mode.

Hard drive storage is an incredible 8 TB's!

Game Storage

The rig is completed by 2 BluRay drives and a full 5.1 Surround Sound system
The only suggestions that we would make to improve this particular gaming PC would be the addition of some water cooling both for the CPU and the GPU, an SSD for sure to boost boot times and to upgrade the graphics capability as there are many single gaming graphics cards such as a GeForce 680 which can do a better job.

So for all you Gamers out there, this is a rig to give you some ideas! Remember that we offer a full custom gaming rig design and build service. Just tell us what you want to play, and we'll give you a gaming PC to play your fav game within your budget.

Laptop Hygine

Laptop keyboards generally take a lot of abuse through normal use. We do advise client's not to eat over their keyboards because a crumb in the wrong place can be very expensive!

It's a good idea to clean your laptop every once in a while. This will help with the cooling, give you better visibility of the screen etc etc.

If I said to you that laptop keyboards can be as bad as coins for spreading infections, you might doubt me but take a look at this:

Every time a laptop comes into our computer repair workshop in Perth, we use a special cleaner that sterilises while cleaning
